2010 Manx Grand Prix Races - Awarding of replicas
The MMCC Committee has discussed the awarding of replicas in depth, particularly in respect of the Classic races. After investigation it was found since the inception of the Classic races in 1983 the number of replicas has varied from year to year. Detailed consideration shows that, for example in 1987 when Dave Pither won the Senior Classic at an average speed of 100.22mph only five replicas were awarded to the 43 finishers. Also consider that when Bob Heath recorded his sixth Senior Classic victory in 1997 at an average speed of 106.13mph, 14 replicas were awarded to the 57 finishers - compare this to Ryan Farquhar's 2008 winning speed (on the BIC Paton) of 102.38mph when 10 replicas were awarded to the 36 finishers. The consideration for the MMCC was, should machines such as the BIC Paton that Ryan Farquhar and others have successfully campaigned in recent years be placed in a separate class. If this was applied in 2009 then replica times would have been based on Wattie Brown's second position with five replicas being awarded (as opposed to the three that were awarded). Taking all the above into consideration and the effort exerted by riders in previous years to achieve the recognised benchmark, the MMCC has agreed in 2010 that replicas in all races (Classic, Post Classic and modern) will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each class and to those riders who finish within 11/10ths of the time taken by the respective winners or class winners.
