The Newcomers in today’s A and B (Junior and Lightweight) Races, rescheduled from yesterday’s weather affected day, have completed their final preparations for their first race on the famous Mountain Course. A close race is expected for the first race of the Manx Grand Prix meeting, and virtually all of the qualifiers have now recorded laps in excess of 100mph.
Saturday’s final qualifying session saw all bar one clock their fastest times of the week with Irish riders particularly to the fore. Mike Browne topped the Newcomers A board with a lap of 115.754 from fellow countryman Thomas Maxwell (114.776) with Manx racer Nathan Harrison (113.568) the third fastest qualifier.
In the B Newcomers, Ireland’s Barry Sheehan was the fastest qualifier with his lap of 105.592 from last Saturday’s qualifying session with Daniel Fernandez (104.305) from Colombia and Japan’s Yoshihiro Kishimoto (102.996) also clocking laps inside 22 minutes.
Today will also see a 2 lap MGP practice for Senior, Junior, Lightweight and Ultra Lightweight machines - the newcomers will sit the session out following their race earlier in the day – ahead of their final preparations for Wednesday’s Junior and Lightweight / Ultra Lightweight Race and the concluding races on Friday – the second Lightweight / Ultra Lightweight and the Senior MGP.
